Designing a Better Way to Search and Browse on Needl

Untitled

In 2021, I had the opportunity to intern at Needl.ai as a Product Manager Intern. While my role was that of a Product Manager, through this project I got the opportunity to dive into the design and interaction of the product directly, alongside writing the PRD and working with engineers.

Context

What is Needl.ai?

Needl.ai is a data curation platform that offers a unified view of all unstructured data along with a host of data processing and collaboration services.

Who are our users?

Our users are folks in the finance and legal industry that do a lot of reading. They are people who read and extract data at a very fast rate and are looking for a high-information density platform to aggregate and read their data.

Understanding the Problem

Today in a feed or in search, Needl mixes results from all data sources into a single feed view. These sources could be of very diverse types, e.g. news, email, drives, chat, etc. Our users find this mixing of data from multiple different types of applications, which they are used to seeing separately, confusing and noisy.

Design Audit

Due to the lack of access to users to interview, we decided to conduct internal user interviews as well as internal design sessions where the designers, PM’s and engineers critiqued the current product. We also used data from Hot-jar and Mix-panel to validate our hypothesis.
